WAA Echuca Moama Exhibition, January 2017

During January, nine WAA members were invited to exhibit works at the Alton Gallery in Echuca. The exhibition was exclusively for WAA and ran for the whole month of January.

WAA Members at Echuca

Our president, Jon Lam has close ties to the art scene in Echuca and is also a member of Echuca Moama Artists Inc. www.altongalleryechuca.com. Jon has had successful solo exhibitions at the Alton Gallery and the Foundry Arts space also at Echuca in the past and over this Christmas period.

The Boys from Barcelona, Colin Foster

Late last year Jon put forward the initiative for WAA to have an exhibition at Echuca, but it would be restricted to no more than 60 paintings which is the maximum the gallery could handle. We had to become members of EMA Inc. to exhibit as well so we restricted exhibits to a small group of artists to see how the experiment would go.

The WAA committee felt this would be a good opportunity, with the promise of working more closely with EMA Inc. in future, both in art shows and possible future exhibitions.

Masters Landing, Jon Lam

The Alton Gallery is a great spot, near the centre of Echuca and run by the Echuca-Moama artists group. The gallery was originally a house many years ago so four typical house rooms comprise the exhibition space.

Works of Art were contributed by Jon as well as Col Browne, Dot Browne, Joanne Coleman, Jude Marganis, Andrew Sendeckyj, Zhonghua Fan, Naine Sankey and Colin Foster.

Fishing Boats, Jude Marganis

Jon arranged to deliver all the works to Echuca where they were hung by the very capable committee at EMA Inc. Our sincere thanks goes to Veronica Lamb who is the curator for the gallery and her husband Russell. They hung all the paintings in a way that enhanced the quality of each piece. They also assisted Jon with organising advertising through the local tourist press.

An opening was held on Saturday 7th of January, and an enthusiastic group of WAA artists, Echuca- Moama members and local citizens attended. The exhibition was opened by Maryanne Jenkins the President of EMA Inc. Jon responded on behalf of WAA and emphasised the benefits of WAA and EMA Inc. working more closely together.

Beach Day, Jude Marganis

On behalf of the exhibiting artists – a special thanks to Jon Lam for taking care of the logistics, the advertising and organising food and drink for the opening, attending the gallery on exhibition days as well as many other things. All very time consuming activities and much appreciated by the WAA members involved.

– Colin Foster, WAA Secretary
