March 2024 Lorraine Wigraft

My name is Lorraine Wigcraft and I am one of the tutors for WAA.
My story goes back a long way. When I was young I worked in an office but I always knew that there was something more that I wanted to do, especially in the Art area.

I painted at all hours until early morning when my children were small. I went to TAFE for awhile and
had a couple of teachers. However, I mostly painted on my own.
My uncle influenced me a lot. He was a marvellous painter. It seems to be in our systems. No matter what happens in our lives we paint.
I love being with other artists as we teach each other, talk and live our art together.
When I was young I would study people’s faces and
clothes not then knowing that this was the beginning of my art as such.
My career as an artist has taken me to many places, demonstrating, judging and partaking in painting weekends.

My paintings have been in a French magazine and in
‘Australian Artists’ a few times.
I started painting in oil, watercolours, acrylic and other mediums. Pastel colours are very basic and their effect is immediate. The colours we can purchase now are beautiful. Years ago we had to mix the colours which provided experience in how to mix colours and tones.
My current group is enthusiastic and happy. We share our talents and thoughts to help each other to solve problems.
I teach at WAA Community Hub one morning a week on Friday’s from 9am to 12pm.
All the best with your own work. Keeps on painting, it is the only way to continue to learn.
